AIM
The primary aim of the Unit is to provide a supportive,
loosely supervised setting, for the further rehabilitation of
individuals who are in later stage recovery from their eating
disorder, but who are not yet ready to live wholly
independently.
LOCATION
The Supported Independent Living Unit (SILU) is located within
walking distance of the town centre. All rooms are en-suite.
LENGTH
OF STAY
The expected length of stay at the SILU is usually between six
and 18 months.
ASSESSMENT AND REFERRAL
Potential clients will be referred to the SILU directly from
the IEDC inpatient programme, from other inpatient programmes,
or from the community outpatient setting. In each case, a
letter recommending referral to the SILU from the potential
client’s consultant psychiatrist or mental health team will be required.
Potential clients referred to the SILU from other inpatient
programmes, or from the community outpatient setting will be
required to attend for a comprehensive pre-admission
assessment, and an overnight stay at the unit before they can
be accepted for admission. This will include a meeting and
interview with co-residents. As the SILU is a potentially long
term setting for residents, group consonance is important, and
will be taken into account when considering referrals to the
unit.
