ADMISSION
PROCEDURE
Patients must be aged 16 or over
All patients should be assessed by the Psychologist, prior to
admission, if possible.
The physical condition of the patient must not present an
imminent risk to life.
The primary diagnosis has to be that of an eating disorder. If
an eating disorder is associated with another mental disorder,
then that disorder must be thought manageable or treatable
within the IEDC. (Assessment of risk is given special
consideration.)
When an eating disorder presents as a co-morbid condition to
chronic physical conditions (e.g. cystic fibrosis, diabetes,
etc), it must be thought to be manageable within the IEDC,
with the assistance of the GP and Royal Buckinghamshire
Hospital medical cover.
REFERRAL
The IEDC works with both privately and NHS funded clients. In
each case, the referral path usually consists of
-
The potential client
-
Their
General Practitioner (GP) /Community Psychiatric Nurse (CPN)
-
The Psychiatrist’s / Psychologists referral to the IEDC.
Self-referring prospective clients are requested to contact
their CPN/GP/Consultant Psychiatrist for referral to the IEDC.
Prospective clients are not assessed without the prior
knowledge and consent of a referring authority, which is
requested in writing.
CONTINUITY OF CARE
The IEDC recognises the importance of continuity of care across
inpatient and (home-based) outpatient settings. With this in
mind, discharge planning commences at the beginning of Stage Two
of the treatment programme when a meeting is arranged between
the resident, the IEDC Nurse Manager, the case IEDC
psychologist, and the resident’s CPN. Other CMHT members who
will be working with the resident post-discharge are also
welcomed.
FOLLOW-UP
Our follow-up programme involves regular contact
with our discharged clients which may be as frequent as weekly
according to the need.
In addition the IEDC offers ongoing web based
communication or telephone monitoring on a regular agreed basis
for a period of up to six months. Ex clients CPNs or colleagues
are welcome to contact the centre to confer on the client's case
during this period. This follow-up service is provided at no
charge to the referring authority.
DAY CARE
The day care programme consists of a modified
form of the Levels System. It is an individualised programme for
those for whom it is deemed appropriate. Participants in the
programme may be involved from 8.15 am to 7.00 pm according to
need.
OUTPATIENTS
Outpatients are assessed by our Consultant
Psychologist prior to an individualised programme being devised
for them. This normally consists of individually planned weekly
sessions with the Psychologist. |
